THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Work in Lahore’ by Hussain Bandukwala (April 24).

The writer, who visited Lahore after 10 years, was all praise for Shahbaz Sharif for transforming the city into a very beautiful place, with a number of underpasses, flyovers and an orderly traffic.

My only question is: was this done by Shahbaz Sharif Lahore mayor or as chief minister of Punjab. One must also need to see the dilapidated condition of roads, sewerage and other civic facilities in other smaller towns of Punjab.

There is little that has been done by the PML-N in the rest of Punjab in its five years of rule. Shahbaz Sharif has been throughout blaming the PPP government in the centre, and particularly President Asif Ali Zardari, for the loadshedding, whereas Shahbaz Sharif also had the option of spending the funds available to him on generating power for his province.

He had all the options with most of the ministries of the Punjab government directly under him. He had discretion to spend the funds on generating power or purely on developing Lahore.

He chose to spend a huge chunk of the Punjab government funds on beautifying Lahore at the expense of the rest of Punjab.
