Sui-Guddu gas line repaired

MAZARI GOTH (Rajanpur), Jan 25: The SNGPL on Saturday repaired the Sui-Guddu transmission line at Dauli and partially restored the gas supply.

However, it abolished the Dauli ‘wall assembly’, which was blown up by some ‘unknown’ persons on Tuesday, and buried the repaired transmission line.

“Though it is against international standards, it has to be done because of security reasons,” SNGPL’s regional chief Amjad Latif said.

The wall assembly is set up at a maximum distance of 18 miles to carry out repairs or suspend gas in case of any eventuality. But, after the abolition of the Dauli station, the first wall assembly would be at Guddu, 36 miles away from Sui.

A company announcement said: “(The) gas pumped into the repaired line from Sui field was injected into the main transmission system at 7.30pm.”

The regional chief told Dawn in Dauli the gas pressure would be increased (into the repaired line) gradually. “It may take a couple of days,” he said.

Said the SNGPL announcement: “The company has already increased pressure at all its sale meter stations throughout the Punjab and NWFP to their normal settings and gas supply to domestic and commercial consumers has been fully restored. The supply to CNG stations is being resumed.”

It said the commissioning of general industry on 12 months contract would start from Sunday (Jan 26) and other industrial consumers would be gradually supplied gas in the following days.

APP quoted SNGPL MD Abdul Rashid Lone as saying the gas to the affected areas of Punjab and the NWFP had been restored. Talking to newsmen in Lahore, he said the gas was now flowing with the required pressure in the network.

He said supply to the CNG stations, which was also disconnected due to the disruption of gas, had been restored almost 60 per cent. The supply would get back to normal by Sunday.

NO POWER: Electricity supply to Dera Bugti, suspended on Jan 14 after the theft of wire from 328 poles of the Kashmor-Sui line, could not be restored till Saturday evening.

Wapda had promised to do the needful on Jan 25. But till Saturday evening, more than 70 poles were yet to be covered.

A Wapda official said exchange of fire between the tribes had slowed down the wire-erection work. He was not sure how many more days Dera Bugto would go without electricity.

The wire was removed allegedly by the Mazaris, against whom the Kashmor and Rajanpur police had registered cases.

SHELLING: The Bugtis fired three rockets on the Mazari settlements on Saturday which landed harmlessly.
