Pakistani music icon Shehzad Roy visits Harvard

An evening of discussion and music with Pakistani music icon and social activist, Shahzad Roy took place at Harvard University, Student Organization Center at Hilles (SOCH).

The event titled “The arts and social change in Pakistan’ was focused towards students from Harvard, MIT, Tufts and other universities in order to make them aware of the changes achieved through arts and music across Pakistan.

Roy spoke about his fresh documentary series “Chal Parha” in which the audiences were also demonstrated about Roy’s journey to over 200 schools across Pakistan in order to reveal Pakistan’s national education system.

Additionally, the viewers were educated about ways in which art and artists have throughout in Pakistan’s history been struggling to bring social change.

The conversation was led by Professor Ali Asani, Professor of Indo-Muslim and Islamic Religion and Cultures and Director of the Alwaleed Islamic Studies Program at Harvard, and Mariam Chughtai, doctoral candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

The evening closed with a cherished performance by Roy’s most requested songs.
