LAHORE, March 12: The Lahore High Court Bar Association on Tuesday rejected Punjab cabinet’s decision regarding formation of LHC benches in five more cities.

The LHCBA general house meeting passed a resolution which rejected formation of new benches in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Gujranwala and DG Khan, calling the cabinet decision a ‘political stunt’ aimed to divide lawyers’ community.

The bar also resolved a petition would be filed, if required, against the decision.

Addressing the meeting presided over by bar president Abid Saqi, lawyers termed cabinet’s decision an ambush on Lahore High Court.

“The litigants were facing problems due to dearth of judges and if the Punjab government had any sympathy with people, it could have appointed judges to overcome the shortage,” they added.

They requested the LHC chief justice not to forward the recommendations regarding formation of new LHC benches. —APP
