ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau has sought details of some road projects and flood rehabilitation construction schemes from the National Highway Authority (NHA).

NAB spokesman Zafar Iqbal said on Tuesday that NHA authorities had been asked to give a detailed presentation on road projects at the NAB headquarters on Friday.

The NAB prevention regime wing, he said, had asked the NHA to provide relevant records of different projects, including flood emergency reconstruction projects — constructions of Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad-Chillas Road (N-15), Chakdara-Kalam Road (N-95), Madyan-Behrain Road and Mahandri-Naran Road.

Sources in the NAB said the awareness and prevention wing of the bureau had observed some irregularities in the projects.

The spokesman said that under its awareness and prevention regime, the NAB routinely monitored mega development projects and checked whether any irregularity or violation of departmental or Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules had been committed.

A NHA spokesman told Dawn that no irregularity had been committed in these projects and that NHA officials would explain the authority’s position at the Friday meeting.

They said all mega road projects had not only been monitored by NHA, but also by some other government organisations, such as Planning Commission and Cabinet Division.

Sources in the NHA said the authority had undertaken 60 development projects in different areas of the country over the past three years.

They said flood had damaged 410-kilometre roads completely and 383-kilometre roads partially. Besides, it had washed away 20 bridges and partially damaged 26 bridges in different parts of the country.

The NHA required Rs23 billion to launch post-flood reconstruction and rehabilitation projects.
