NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, March 6: A jirga held in Halani on Wednesday settled a running dispute between two groups of Jatoi and Kori tribes by imposing heavy fines.

Syed Abrar Ali Shah who chaired the jirga imposed a fine of Rs1 million on Koris for the murder of Akhtar Jatoi and Rs600,000 for kidnapping two Jatoi girls. He fined Koris Rs600,000 for kidnapping a Jatoi girl and Rs100,000 for nominating Aqib Khan Jatoi in a fake FIR.

The jirga imposed Rs1 million fine on Jatois for going against the verdict of Aqib Khan Jatoi who had directed them in an earlier jirga to return Kori girl, and slapped Rs500,000 fine on Jatois for nominating Ghulam Mustafa Kori, father of Tando Allahyar SP Khalid Mustafa Kori in an FIR.

The groups went to war after Qadir Kori, an absconder in criminal cases, kidnapped a Jatoi girl some time ago and the Jatois kidnapped his wife, a mother of six, in tit for tat.

The groups earlier tried to settle the dispute through a jirga chaired by former district nazim, Aqib Khan Jatoi, who imposed fine on Jatois and asked them to return Koris’ girl but they did not comply with the decision and the dispute lingered on.

About a few weeks ago, Koris kidnapped Shazia and Bakhtawar, daughters of Ghulam Qadir Jatoi and Ghulam Nabi Jaoti.

One Akhtar Jatoi was killed during shootout with the rival group.

On Feb 22, Jatois registered an FIR and nominated Ghulam Mustafa Kori, father of Tando Allahyar SP, as an accused in the kidnapping.

In a tit for tat move, Koris lodged a counter FIR on Feb 23 against Aqib Khan Jatoi, Mansoor Jatoi and Khalifa Shakeel Ahmed. But the parties agreed to settle the dispute through a jirga.

Mir Manzoor Panhwar of Jacobabad, Mohammad Ibrahim Jatoi, Mohammad Khan Jonejo, son of late Shah Nawaz Jonejo, were guarantors of Jatois and former MPA Inayat Ali Rind and Dr Mazhar were guarantors of Koris.

National People’s Party chairman Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, MPA Masroor Khan Jatoi and Rais Aqib Khan Jaoi also attended the jirga.
