KARACHI, Jan 23: The Sindh Assembly session scheduled to begin on Monday has blocked the opposition PPP’s move to have a requisitioned session.

Fireworks are, however, expected at the session when motions, adjournment motions and resolutions submitted by members of opposition parties, particularly from those of the People’s Party Parliamentarians and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, would be taken up for discussion. The issues raised in resolutions, etc are likely to generate much heat in the discussion.

The Mahar coalition government, which enjoys the support of 97 members in a house of 168, is plagued by differences among its allies over distribution of portfolios and alleged violation of the accord between coalition partners reached at the time of the formation of the government. Even things within the parliamentary party of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) could not be termed satisfactory as there is heart-burning among members over the power-sharing formula with other allies.

The National Alliance, with 16 members in the house, has applied for separate seats on the treasury benches to keep its identity, which shows that the NA’s support could not be taken for granted on all issues.
