LAKKI MARWAT, March 3: The residents of several Lakki Marwat villages have announced to field candidates for the national and provincial assembly elections in the district.

They made the announcement during a gathering in Dallokhel village here the other day. Residents of Dallokhel, Abakhel, Matora, Wanda Kalan, Wanda Zeran, Chunnai Mastikhel, Lakki city and Mohammadkhel participated in the gathering.

Among the speakers were retired college teacher Haji Zarwali Khan, former nazim Johar Khan, Ibrahim Shah, Mohammad Jalil, Ismail Khan, Ameenullah Khan, Khairullah and Naimatullah.

They said Khans and elected representatives had miserably failed to live up to the people’s expectations regarding development and couldn’t mislead the people anymore.

The speakers said it was not the right of Khans and chieftains to reach the assemblies and this time, true representatives of the people would be elected. They said everyone had the right to contest elections. They added that the people of the district were sick of local politicians and eagerly awaited a change.

“The residents of Dallokhel, Abakhel and other villages will bring out a change by fielding own candidates in the upcoming elections,” a speaker said.

He said a committee consisting of elders from all villages would soon nominate candidates for national and provincial assembly elections.

The speaker said after the naming of candidates, the committee would begin a mass public contact campaign in the district to convince the people to reject traditional politicians and support true representatives. —Correspondent
