KASHMORE: President Mohammad Ayub khan, performing the opening ceremony of the Rs47-crore Guddu Barrage project here this morning (March 1), said that the people should chalk out for themselves a life of dedication to develop the country’s human and material resources “to give our people a better life”.

The President outlined three basic points “to sustain a bigger and more extensive development programme”.

These are: (1) Utilisation of land more effectively, (2) production of raw material for industries and exports and (3) reduction of foreign exchange cost of industrial development projects.

The impressive inauguration ceremony was performed on the banks of the Indus River. The President said it was a “monumental barrage”.—Correspondent

Border accord shows the way: Bhutto

PEKING: Pakistan’s External affairs Minister Z.A. Bhutto said in an airport speech here today (March 1): “Our accord on the border between the two countries is a successful demonstration of the efficacy of peaceful procedures for the settlement of international questions through the medium of sincere negotiations.”

Mr Bhutto went on: “It is my earnest conviction that by entering into this agreement the People’s Republic of China and Pakistan have strengthened peace in Asia and the world.”—Agencies
