RAWALPINDI, Jan 22: PIA seemed well in control of their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy pre-quarterfinal against Bahawalpur and were poised to take first innings lead at Rawalpindi Stadium on Wednesday.

After their pacemen, led by Test man Mohammad Zahid who snared four for 64 and Aizaz bin Ilyas with three for 41 bowled out Bahawalpur for just 201, PIA were a comfortable 157 for one at the close of the opening day.

Opener Kamran Sajid scored a fine 54 while Ghulam Ali hit an unbeaten 88 to lay a solid foundation for PIA.

For Bahawalpur, only Safdar Niazi with 52 and tailender Arshad Ali, who scored 56, played worthwhile knocks.
