ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan will resume on Mar 6 the hearing over a petition submitted by former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani against his disqualification, DawnNews reported on Thursday.

A three-member bench of the apex led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would resume the hearing.

Earlier in April last year, a seven-member bench of the supreme court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had handed out a symbolic punishment to the then prime minister Gilani.

Later a three member bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chuadhry upheld the court's earlier decision and Gilani was removed from office, making him the first ever chief executive to be removed for committing contempt.

The conviction had not only left Yousuf Raza Gilani disqualified as prime minister but also disqualified him from contesting as a Member of National  Assembly.

The former prime minister had filed an appeal on Feb 2 this year against the apex court’s ruling in the contempt case barring him from contesting elections and holding any public office for five years.
