LAHORE, Feb 27: Robbers took away three mini-trucks from a truck stand, injured a citizen and plundered cash and valuables worth Rs83.5 million in three major strikes in the city on Wednesday.

A gang of eight robbers stormed the truck stand of Liaquat in Burki police limits and took away three mini-trucks and a motorcycle by holding drivers and helpers hostage at gunpoint. The owner estimated a loss of Rs8 million.

Four robbers attempted to stop motorcyclist Abu Zar near Royal Palm Country Club in Mughalpura police limits and fired at him on failing to stop him. The suspects fled the scene.

Two armed men approached the family of Adnan Rana at their doorstep in Johar Town police limits and snatched jewellery worth Rs250,000.

Four robbers, including two women, entered the house of Asad Karim in Gulsan Block of Iqbal Town and made off with Rs100,000 and a cell phone.

THEFT: Unidentified people took away 10 outdoor split AC units from the roof of a bank branch in Askari-II in Burki police limits.

Bank Manager Umer told the police that their security guard found the units missing after he went to the rooftop to fill fuel in the generator.

MURDERED: A widow in her 50s was found murdered at home in Chungi Dogaij locality of Cantonment early on Wednesday.

The North Cantonment circle DSP said Abbas, one of the three sons of victim Ms Nusrat, found the main door of the house open and his mother strangled in a room around 3am.

He said the woman was strangled with a wire, adding her youngest son Waqas, who was at home in night hours, went missing.
