ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, a firebrand leader of People’s Party who had distanced himself from the party and tendered his resignation from the Senate, withdrew the resignation on Friday after a meeting with PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari at the presidency.

President’s spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar told Dawn that Mr Abidi had withdrawn his resignation and expressed confidence in the leadership of PPP.

Sources said differences developed between Mr Abidi and the PPP leadership after his outburst against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. He tendered his resignation in January.

Mr Abidi became senator in 2009 and has served the PPP as its president of Karachi division.

During his meeting with the PPP chairman, Mr Abidi said he would continue his struggle for the mission of Benazir Bhutto.
