MITHI, Jan 21: The higher authorities of the education department and the anti-corruption establishment should initiate an inquiry into misappropriation of funds of the School Management Committees (SMCs).

This was demanded in a resolution tabled at a session of the Tharparkar District Council on Monday.

The members of the council, including Narho union council Nazim Abdul Raheem Khoso, Tagusar union council Nazim Abdul Latif and Rajore union council Nazim Dost Ali Rahimoon, alleged the SMCs funds had been misappropriated by some officials of the education department in collusion with contractors.

Meanwhile, talking to newsmen and issuing separate press statements, Mithi union council Naib Nazim Doongromal, Primary Teachers Association president Mohammad Ramzan Samejo, district council members Tikamdas Kolhi, Poonjomal and Mohanlal, Soothat Colony Primary School’s SMC chairman Hiroji and others, also accused local officials of the education department of embezzling the funds.

They demanded an inquiry into the matter and action against officials concerned.

When contacted, a senior officer of the education department told this correspondent the local office had approved quotations of furniture and other items at low rates.
