Smuggled goods seized: 11 arrested

GUJRANWALA, Jan 20: Customs intelligence seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods and arrested 11 smugglers here on Monday.

On a tip off that some smugglers were bringing goods from tribal area by a truck, a coaster and a car, customs raiding parties set up pickets at the river Chenab near Wazirabad and the Pindi Bhattian interchange.

When these vehicles reached there, the customs staff stopped them and recovered machinery, cloth and electronic goods from the vehicles.

Eleven smugglers, including a couple, were also taken into custody.

POWER THIEVES: Twelve electricity thieves were caught red-handed by raiding teams of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company from various parts of the city on Monday.

ILLEGAL ARMS: The district police claim having recovered a huge quantity of illegal arms from criminals and registered 170 cases during a special drive last month.

The district police officer told newsmen on Monday that three Kalashnikovs, nine rifles, 20 guns, 24 revolvers, 97 pistols, six carbines and 1,569 rounds were recovered from their possession.

He said the police also arrested 120 proclaimed offenders and several gangs of dacoits and recovered looted goods worth Rs3.7 million besides charas and heroin from them.

MURDERED: A woman was murdered by unidentified assailants in Kamoki on Monday.

Irshad Bibi was asleep when the accused entered the house and attacked her with bricks and stones, killing her on the spot.
