KARACHI, Feb 12: Deputy commissioners have been directed to take effective steps to ensure that wheat flour is sold at the fixed ex-mill rate of Rs33 a kilo and retail price of Rs34.50 a kilo in their respective districts.

A crackdown on millers selling wheat flour at excessive rates will be launched on Wednesday.

This was decided at a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi at his office on Tuesday to ensure that flour was sold at the rates fixed by the Sindh government.

Food Secretary Aftab Ahmed Memon, Pakistan Flour Mills Association Sindh Circle chairman Chaudhry Ansar Javed and other top officials attended the meeting.

The commissioner said retailers must also be checked so as to ensure flour sale at the official rates. He directed the officials concerned that action be initiated against profiteers and a report in this regard be sent to him on a daily basis. The orders were issued on a directive of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah who took notice of flour sale at excessive rates.—PPI/APP
