PESHAWAR, Feb 8: A group of activists of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Charsadda, has demanded re-election for the party offices in the district, saying that percentage of polled votes was lower than the required 50 per cent of total votes.

Speaking at a press conference here the other day, PTI’s presidential candidate from Charsadda, Mohamamd Tahir Umarzai, said that the party’s code of conduct was violated in the intra-party elections.

He said that only 142 of total 526 votes were polled, which stood at around 25 per cent. He said that PTI’s election commissioner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Qazi Anwar, had announced that if the turnout remained below 50 per cent, election would be conducted again, but that did not happen.

Flanked by Dr Nadeem, Anwar Taj and other activists, Mr Umarzai said that ballots boxes were brought to Peshawar without proper sealing. He alleged that bogus votes were included with the help of election commission members.

“We reject the intra-party elections in Charsadda,” he said and demanded of PTI chairman Imran Khan to take notice of the rigged elections and order re-polling in the district. —Bureau Report
