GILGIT, Feb 7: The Water and Power Department of Gilgit-Baltistan has decided to carry out survey of rivers and nullahs in the region to identify new sites for production of hydel power.

The department’s officials said that the survey would cover all the seven districts of GB to identify the potential sites for hydel power production.

They said that the government had already signed an MoU with China under which the latter would work on the electricity generation project.

They said that the federal ministry of water and power had also briefed the Chinese officials about this project and they had agreed to work in this sector.

The officials said that the Chinese government would also provide funds required for this survey, which could cost up to Rs1 billion.

OATH-TAKING: The two newly-appointed judges of the Supreme Appellate Court would be administered oath here on Friday (today).

The court officials said that the two judges included Raja Jalal and Muzaffar Hussain, who had been elevated from the Chief Court.
