SANGHAR, Jan 19: The government will provide Rs150 million to the Cadet College at Jam Nawaz Ali, Sanghar, over the next three years.

This was stated on Saturday by Sindh education minister Irfanullah Marwat while speaking as the chief guest at the sixth parents’ day held at the cadet college.

Criticizing the disparity in quality of rural and urban education institutions, Mr Marwat said that the standard of education in the interior of Sindh was very poor, adding that it was impossible to think in terms of merit with this system of education.

The minister said that the government would do all it can to improve the quality of education in the province’s rural areas.

The Commander, Karachi Fleet, Vice Admiral Irfan Ahmed, was also present on the occasion.

The Commandant of the college, Capt Altaf Nabi Dar, in his speech said that the college also emphasized on character building as well as providing good education.

He said that the college’s students had secured top ten positions in the local intermediate examinations for the year 2002.

Presently, the commandant said, there were 340 cadets living in the institution’s four residential blocks.

Shah Abdul Latif division was presented with a trophy for academic excellence, a trophy for extra-curricular activities was given to the Allama I. I. Kazi division, while the sports trophy was presented to the M. A. Jinnah division.

The principal of the college said that the cadet college was facing problems because of suspension of aid by the Sindh government.
