LAHORE, Feb 4: Like other parts of the country, the World Cancer Day was observed in the provincial capital on Monday.

The medical institutes and non-government organisations organised seminars, walks and workshops to create awareness among the general public and the health practitioners about the ways to fight cancer.

Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (Inmol) arranged a cancer awareness walk to sensitise the public to measures to fight the disease.

A good number of doctors, nurses, paramedics, patients and their relatives participated in the walk which was organised from Inmol to Shaikh Zayed Hospital.

They also took a round of the Punjab University New Campus. The participants were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans ‘We will defeat the killer disease soon’.

Inmol Director Dr Abubakr Shahid and senior doctors led the walk and distributed gifts among cancer patients.

Inmol Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Misbah Masood informed the participants that chest cancer was much common among women. He suggested that every woman should visit nearby hospital for mammography at the age of 35 as a preventive measure.

Principal Medical Officer Dr Zafar Allauddin talked about stomach and gall bladder cancer among men.
