ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that instructions had been issued to authorities concerned to provide security to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Speaking to mediapersons, he said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had informed the interior ministry through a letter about threats to CEC.

The minister said that all the provincial governments had been directed to provide special security to provincial election commissioners and the heads of political parties.

Commenting on Wednesday's blast in Karachi, Rehman Malik said that had a bomb planted in a taxi exploded, there would have been massive destruction.

He also said the Sipah-i-Sahaba, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and Jaish-i-Muhammad was responsible for aggravating the law and order situation in Karachi.
