ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: As a pilot project, a separate crime reporting room went into operation on Monday at Shalimar police station with the aim to facilitate the crime victims in lodging complaints.

The complainants usually endure long delays and mandatory searches when they enter a police station. As a result crimes in capital often go unreported.

With its focus on community policing and public service the capital police planned to set up special reporting room adjacent to police stations.

In this regard the US government, through International Criminal Investigation Training Assistance Programme and International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Agency, helped the police implement the plan.

The plan will be replicated in other police stations of the capital where 12 more reporting rooms will be established. They will serve as models for other police stations across Pakistan.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan said that the modern reporting section would help residence of capital to register their complaints without any difficulties.

He said more modern reporting sections would be opened in reaming police stations as work in this regard was under way.

These new reporting rooms will not only help crime victim, but also make it easier for police to record and investigate crimes.
