THERE is no doubt that Tony Greig revolutionised and made commentary on a cricket match interesting. During the 1996 world cup when Jayasuria cut loose on the Indians and took them to task, he told Sunil Gawaskar: “Sunny, don’t be depressed. It is a biggie, guess who is in charge none other than the prince himself (relating to Brian Lara) who took the Australians on his own in Perth 1997 during a Carlton and United Series Match to lead his side to victory. They are dancing in the aisles.”

These were some of his famous words that I remember from memory and they will remain with me and with every cricket lover forever.

His role in setting up the Kerry Packer series cost him his captaincy of the English team but he went ahead with his plans and this act of his changed the game of cricket once and for all in a lot of ways, bringing in the much-needed revenue, colour clothing and the introduction of night cricket.

Mr Greig was a great admirer of Sri Lankan and Pakistani cricket. He will always be fondly remembered and sorely missed. May his soul rest in peace as he has gone to keep his tryst with his Maker.
