ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said that there is no weight in Imran Khan’s argument for seeking resignation of President Asif Ali Zardari as he has already handed over his powers to the parliament and prime minister.

Speaking in Radio Pakistan's programme 'Naey Ufaq', he said the president has no executive authority and he also has no role in the formation of the caretaker government.

The minister said there is a procedure for establishment of caretaker governments at the centre and in the provinces which would be formed in consultation with all political parties including Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI).

He said the executive authority would be exercised by the caretaker government in conjunction with the independent Election Commission.

He said the caretakers would be there to assist the commission in holding free, fair and transparent elections.

Asked about demand of leader of the opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for replacement of governors, the information minister said offices of the president and governors are constitutional and they have nothing to do with the executive authority and holding of elections.

He said demand of the leader of the opposition is unconstitutional.

About statement of Nisar regarding formation of caretaker governments in Sindh and Balochistan, the minister said these would be formed according to law and the constitution.

To a question, Kaira said it is for the law minister to comment on appointment of judges by the judicial commission but it would have been appropriate if its composition was complete.

Prominent jurists have opined that composition of the judicial commission for appointment of judges was not complete and therefore, appointments so made are open to question, he added.
