LAHORE, Jan 24: The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the Punjab government to regularise services of 46 nurses of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

The nurses, including Sajida Sultana and Nazia Saleem, had filed a petition pleading that they were appointed on a three-year contract and the government also undertook to regularise them. However, the government backed out of the promise and decided to terminate them (petitioners) from service.

They said the government was recruiting new nurses on political grounds. They prayed to the court to order the government to make their services regularised.

Opposing the petition, government’s counsel stated the petitioners were appointed by the hospital’s board of management, therefore, the government could not retain them.

The court rejected the govt’s arguments and ordered it to regularise the services of petitioners. — Staff Reporter
