KARACHI, Jan 17: Reckless driving claimed three lives in the city on Friday.

A young cyclist was knocked down by a water tanker in Pak Colony in the evening.

Police said a water tanker (LSA-7763), that was on way from Old Golimar, knocked down cyclist Rizwan Ahmed, aged 17.

Witnesses said Rizwan died on the spot as his brain came out of the skull because of the powerful impact of the tanker in motion.

Police said the tanker driver tried to escape, but people caught him after giving him a chase for a short distance.

After the accident, enraged youths set the ten-wheeler water tanker on fire.

A serious traffic jam occurred in Pak Colony during peak evening rush hour following the accident.

A young girl died in a road accident in Mochko.

Police said Salma, aged 20, was run over by a speeding minibus (PE-3362) of route A-25 while walking across the main Suparco Road.

She was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

An elderly man died in a hit-and-run accident in Korangi Industrial Area.

Police said an unidentified pedestrian, who was in his early 70s, was walking across the main road when an unknown vehicle knocked him down.

The man was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

CARJACKING: Twenty-four vehicles — nine cars and 15 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Friday, police said.

Six cars were hijacked. Three others were stolen.

Eight motorcycles were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Friday to have recovered eight vehicles in the city.

ROBBERY: Bandits robbed the wife of Nawab Mirza, an MNA of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, in front of her house in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Friday night.

Police said when the MNA’s wife returned home at Block-10/A two bandits robbed her of jewellery and Rs30,000. Police have picked up six suspects.

KILLED: A young man was found murdered in New Karachi on Friday morning.

Police said Fakhar, aged 23, was kidnapped in sector 5-J of New Karachi on Thursday night. An FIR about his kidnapping was lodged at New Karachi police station the same night.

Police said the young man was found murdered in Khamiso goth in sector 12-C of New Karachi Industrial Area.

Sources at the hospital said the young man received a bullet in his head that was fired from a close range.

A young man was stabbed to death by his brother in New Karachi on Friday.

Police failed to ascertain the motive for the killing.

A young man was stabbed to death by his relation in Chakiwara on Friday.

FIRE: As many as 21 buffaloes died when a fire broke out at a cattle-pen in Landhi early Friday morning.

Firemen saved the rest of the 30 buffaloes at the cattle-pen.
