HYDERABAD, Jan 17: The government will strive to improve the quality of education in Sindh as its education system is in a bad shape, specially in the government-run education institutions.

This was stated by the Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Irfanullah Marwat, while presiding over a meeting of the officials of the education department of Hyderabad district at the Circuit House here on Friday.

Mr Marwat said that there was no harm in admitting mistakes, adding that the government was committed to improve the system in the larger interest of the province.

He Marwat said that the donor agencies have called for handing over 90 per cent school buildings of the education department to private agencies/non-governmental organisations besides urging for doing away with the staff of government institutions.

He said that radical changes would be made to improve the education department’s performance and bureaucratic problems would also be solved.

The provincial education minister said that the output remained poor despite the increased budgetary allocation for education.

He said that the donor agencies had expressed their dissatisfaction over the poor performance of the education department.

He added that efforts would have to be made to take remedial measures to improve the education system in Sindh.

He said that officers and teachers performing poorly would be punished while hard work and efficiency would be duly rewarded under the relevant rules.

He further said that the federal government has stressed the need for improving the performance, orientation and quality of education, adding that joint efforts would have to be made in this regard.

He said that he would visit Hyderabad and hold further meetings with officers of the department and teaches to solve their problems, adding that there was an urgent need to resolve some very serious problems.

He directed the officers of the department to submit a detailed report about grant of a scholarship of Rs100 to female students.

He also called for surrendering funds in this regard, if the same had not already been paid to students.

A three-day-long training workshop on the ideology of Pakistan concluded here on Friday.

The workshop, attended by teachers from colleges, was organised by the Pakistan Study Centre of the University of Sindh.

Speaking on the occasion, the vice chancellor of the Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, appreciated the National Institute of Public Administration, Karachi, for collaborating in this regard.

Among others, the director of the Pakistan Study Centre, Prof Chand Bibi Sultana, and Prof Siraj Jamal Siddiqui, also expressed their views on the occasion.

FAREWELL PARTY: A farewell-cum-welcome party was organised for the outgoing students of the year 2002 and new students of the year 2003 in the faculty of education, University of Sindh.
