LAHORE, Jan 22: A lawyer has filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting the suspension of the  functioning of a government-made commission to probe into the death of Kamran Faisal, NAB investigator in the Rental Power scam.

Advocate Sarfraz Husain, in his petition, stated that the federal government had appointed the one-man commission comprising Justice Javed Iqbal (retired) and was trying to dub it a judicial commission.

The petitioner said the Supreme Court was competent to make a judicial commission on the request of the government. He requested the court to stay the proceedings of the commission and direct the government to adopt due course for the composition of the judicial commission on the matter. The petition was filed at the Lahore registry.

DRIVING LICENCES: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Tuesday sought replies from the transport secretary and the chief traffic officer (CTO) on a petition questioning loopholes in the procedure of getting driving licences.

A citizen, Moazzam Ali Shah, filed the petition saying the present procedure of obtaining driving licences was very weak as one could get his licence at home.

He said this was the main reason of increasing traffic chaos and road accidents.

The petitioner prayed to the court to order the respondent authorities to make the licence process fool proof. The court issued notices for Jan 26.
