QUETTA, Jan 20: To mark the beginning of their movement against promulgation of governor’s rule in Balochistan, activists of JUI-F, PPP and Balochistan National Party (A) took out processions in Quetta and several other towns of the province on Sunday.
They were demanding withdrawal of the notification about imposition of governor’s rule and reinstatement of the provincial government. In Quetta, a procession was taken out from the Government Degree Science College to the Bacha Khan Chowk where a demonstration was held. Holding flags of their parties, placards and banners, the participants raised slogans base on their demands.
Addressing the demonstrators, JUI-F Senator Hamdullah, independent MPA Dr Abdul Razzaq and BNP-A leader Dr Nashunas said the imposition of governor’s rule was an unconstitutional and undemocratic act which deprived an elected government of its right to rule the province.
Compared to Balochistan, they said, law and order situation in Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was more alarming but the centre had not taken such an action in Sindh or KP.
They said the Balochistan government had been dismissed on the pretext of killing of 86 people in Quetta but the situation in Sindh and KP was ignored although hundreds of people had been killed in Karachi and Peshawar.
They claimed that the coalition government headed by Nawab Aslam Raisani had been dismissed because he had refused to compromise on the issue of Reko Diq project.
They accused the federal government of promulgating governor’s rule under a conspiracy hatched in collaboration with Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi.
They accused PPP of repeating its past mistakes and recalled that back in 1973 its government had dismissed the Balochistan government of Sardar Ataullah Mengal.
