LAHORE, Jan 17: A two-member bench of the Federal Shariat Court on Thursday vacated the stay earlier granted against the execution of a convict in a murder and gang-rape case.
An anti-terrorism court had awarded death sentence to Akhtar Husain on charges of raping, along with his accomplices, a woman and also killing her husband.
The Lahore High Court had confirmed the death sentence, however, on an appeal moved by the convict a single bench of the Shariat Court had stayed the execution.
The complainant party challenged the stay pleading that clear involvement of the convict in the crime had been proved by the police and the convict failed to defend his case before all courts.
After hearing both sides, the bench vacated the stay and allowed implementation of the sentence.
