LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday announced that the party would not let anyone derail the democratic process, DawnNews reported.
PML-N leaders met and devised the party’s policy on the long march led by Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Tahirul Qadri.
PML-N leaders, including Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Pervez Rasheed and Saad Rafiq, were present for the talks where a common framework was decided upon.
The PML-N leadership said the party wanted democracy to thrive and no one would be allowed to derail the democratic process.
They added that political parties that have made a number of sacrifices for democracy in Pakistan would not let it wither.
The party leadership declared the announcements and threats made by the TMQ chief unlawful and unconstitutional.
In a statement from Lahore, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said eight weeks remained in the dissolution of the federal and provincial assemblies. Therefore, Qadri’s “long march farce” was nothing more than an attempt to sabotage the upcoming general elections.
Moreover, Iqbal said Qadri smacked of a civilian martial law administrator.

Why is everybody complaining about democracy? If you feel bad about the current govt., then it's is the very 'democracy' that lets you kick it out! Don't fall for the sweet talk of 'unelected' people like Mr Qadri who from nowhere have been 'dropped' on the stage to hijack the process.

it is hilarious that those who came in power through dirty paid-politics and looted country's wealth again and again collected from poor people talking about democracy. Actually, they have nothing on their account to claim on for next election, so trying to avert the attention of people from the mess over the years they made!

I am still unable to understand how can transparent election, unbiased caretaker government and better scrutiny of election candidates can derail democracy. Yes those should be worried who consider these transparency steps against their normal practice.

it is advisable for PML(N) and other political parties to stay quiet and watch what happens in Islamabad. Whatever the thoughts of PML(N), it is not a hidden secret that PML(N) has been in one way or another party to the plight of the country as it stands. What the political parties call democracy is in fact utter corruption and die-hard desire to stay in power. So please, PML(N) and others dont lecture the nation on meaning of democracy.

PMLN, where is your democracy when 100 of people are getting killed every single day? Democracy is only for you to make money and save it Swiss banks. Today there is no Gas, Electricity, Petrol, Jobs, Water, Flour in the country, What does this democracy means? not a single person in the country is happy! so where is democracy and for whom? and if you are so eager of democracy then why you block the roads whenever there is a March, to stop people from participating in the march? democracy means people's choice!!!

Shame on N-League. Hearing about democracy from your mouths sounds "more waste of money". Pay your taxes and point on others. Every citizen question you about your taxes!! German and American trasnports can not bring change...Change comes from the people who walk on foot and PAY THEIR TAXES!!!

In my post last week, I had made the same comments. All events were leading to the same conclusion. The Hazara massacre, Shooting at LOC, timing of the march, IMF loan sitiuation are reeking of military intervention of public space created by democracy. I am afraid there will be an emergency declared by the defence forces citing external & internal threats. Back to Square 1...

Dr. Qadri is a threat to PML-N and others as they have robbed and looted the exchequer and made the lives of poor and downtrodden miserable. Democracy for them is a licence to loot and plunder only. We don't want the current fake corrupt regime to continue. Its better to dissolve Parliament NOW and install neutral caretaker interim set up to hold their accountability first. They all first remain out of job and unemployed so they should also suffer like other people.

Yes we are back to square one I am afraid. Another military takeover has begun. From what you can read in the comments, the people are speaking as well....that essentially is democracy and clearly they do not want the present dispensation, a farce of democracy I guess you may say. The rulers have not woken up and the next step could be a bloody revolution with clash of institutions. The writing is on the wall. Another opportunity squandered. A sad day for Pakistan again.......a very sad day indeed.
