LAHORE, Jan 14: Scores of Shia people ended their sit-in on Monday on the direction of the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) leadership after the government accepted its demands of imposing governor’s rule in Balochistan.

“I salute to all participants who have displayed a great unity on the occasion, forcing the government to accept our demands,” said MWM’s central secretary-general Allama Raja Nasir Abbas in a telephonic address to participants.

He warned the government of similar nationwide protests if it failed to control killings of Shias in the country, mainly Balochistan. Allama Abbas appreciated the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf, Jamaat-i-Islami, traders’ unions, CDGL and other institutions for supporting them.

LOGISTICS: The City District Government of Lahore provided a logistic support to participants in a sit-in held in front of Governor’s House and Imamia Colony (GT Road).

According to a spokesman, officials of the CDGL, Data Ganj Bakhsh and Ravi towns remained present at the protest sites for two days and provided water and other necessary things to protesters.

GUJRANWALA: Activists of the Shia Ulema Council on Monday blocked GT Road near Kot Shahan for some two hours and burnt tyres in protest against the Quetta carnage.

Carrying black flags, the protesters shouted slogans against the government and alleged that the rulers had failed to maintain law and order and provide protection to the life and property of the people.

They said the target killings in Quetta were a black spot on the face of the government.

SAHIWAL: Around 300 people, who had been holding a sit-in on Sahiwal-Multan Motorway bypass for the last 24 hours, called off their protest after the imposition of the governor’s rule in Balochistan.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Hundreds of women and men belonging to the Shia community staged a sit-in for three hours at Shahbaz Sharif Chowk to show solidarity with the Hazara community.

Sunni Tehrik district amir Maulana Muneem Siddiqui and others also participated in the protest and condemned the killings.

BAHAWALPUR: Activists of Imamia Students Organisation and the Shia community called off their protest at Farid Gate after the Hazara tribe ended their protest in Quetta.

SIALKOT: Hundreds of Shias staged sits-in in at least 15 different spots in Sialkot.

The sit-ins were staged at Allama Iqbal Chowk, Railway Road, Paris Road, Kutchery Chowk, China Chowk, Shahabpura Chowk, Hajipura Road, Circular Road, Rangpura Chowk, Naikapura, Fatehgarh Chowk, Roras Chowk and surrounding areas.

SARGODHA: After sacking of the provincial government and enforcement of governor’s rule in Balochistan, the sit-in of the Shia community ended here on Monday.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Activists of Majlis-i-Wahadat-i-Muslimeen terminated their sit-in at Awan Adal Chowk after governor’s rule in Balochistan.
