LAHORE, Jan 8: A police constable and a woman were killed while a man was injured in two road accidents in the provincial capital on Tuesday, police said.

In the first incident, 38-year-old constable Muhammad Azam was killed after a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) employee, Akhtar, rammed his car into the motorcycle the policeman was riding on Jail Road.

Witnesses told Shadman police that Akhtar apparently lost control over steering of the car that crossed over the median and hit the victim’s motorcycle on the other track near the APWA College around 1:45am.

The police said Azam of Walton Road, driver of Rang Mahal circle DSP, was returning home after performing his duty when he met with an accident.

Witnesses and police managed to capture the PCB employee, who had returned from India along with the Pakistani cricket team.

The police arrested Akhtar, impounded the car and registered a case on the complaint of Muhammad Shabbir of Walton Road.

The second incident occurred on a road near Saroba Attari darbar where, according to Nishtar Colony police, a coaster hit and injured a man and a woman, later identified as Shakeela.

The injured were shifted to Lahore General Hospital where Shakeela, who worked in a factory, succumbed to her wounds.

The coaster driver fled the scene. Police impounded the vehicle and registered a case.

Robberies: Robbers looted cash and valuables, including a good quantity of aluminum, all worth Rs2 million, in four major hits in the city on Tuesday.

Three robbers, riding a vehicle, stopped Mohsin Raza, the driver of a factory, at gunpoint near his workplace in Kahna police limits. They kidnapped him along with the factory pick-up loaded with aluminum bars. The outlaws took the driver to katcha road, tied him up, loaded the material worth Rs1.4 million onto their vehicle and fled.

Two robbers entered the shop of Zeeshan Iqbal on Sagar Road in North Cantt police limits and looted Rs70,000 and calling cards.

Two armed men intercepted Shafiqur Rehman at Saggian Bridge and snatched Rs400,000 from him while as many outlaws stopped Iqra Nasir in Kamran Block of Gulshan-i-Iqbal and deprived her of cash and valuables worth Rs110,000.
