ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: An acc ountability court on Thursday dismissed the application of a former income tax official of Islamabad region, challenging a supplementary reference against him.

The former IT deputy commissioner, Raja Mohammad Yaqoob, had questioned, under section 173 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the filing of the supplementary reference by the prosecution. He said there was no provision in the accountability ordinance to submit a supplementary challan, specially when the statement of different prosecution witnesses had been recorded.

The accused submitted that the supplementary reference could be filed within seven days after presentation of the interim challan, but in this case, the reference was filed after 66 days.

The court, which had reserved its judgment on the matter on Wednesday, finally gave its order on Thursday, stating that it was rejecting the matter since the accused had already received the supplementary reference. The prosecution was holding Raja Yaqoob responsible for amassing wealth worth Rs8.54 million through corrupt means when he was the deputy commissioner.

Meanwhile, Accountability Court No II has summoned the prosecution witnesses to record their statement in the scrap case against former Petroleum Minister Anwar Saifullah on Nov 29.
