LAHORE, Jan 2: The National Institute of Design and Analysis (NIDA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate-General of Technical Education and Manpower Training for training young men in mobile repairing trade.

Under the MoU, the KPK government would channelise the training for 25 students in the latest trade of mobile repairing through NIDA’s Peshawar centre, said a spokesperson on Wednesday.

The six-month course would be imparted to the trainees at NIDA centre’s hi-tech labs where students would be apprised of market-oriented curricula with an additional emphasis on practical application of the course.

Quoting NIDA Programme Manager Wasi Hyder, the spokesperson said the habituation and the resultant excessive usage of cellular phones in Pakistan indicated a swollen need of formal skill dissemination in mobile hardware and software reparation, which would certainly extend employment opportunities as well as the public convenience.

For the Peshawar course, highly proficient and adroit trainers have been engaged to impart training.

In collaboration with the KPK Directorate-General of Technical Education and Manpower Training, NIDA would also give a monthly stipend of Rs2,000 to each student to keep them prompt and motivated at the training.

Prof Shakeel Ahmad from KPK Directorate-General of Technical Education and Manpower Training said the institute would continue offering similar courses in diversified technical trades through the platform of NIDA. So far, some 2,082 engineers and industry professionals in varied disciplines of CAD/CAM Design and Analysis had been trained at NIDA’s Peshawar centre in collaboration with GIZ, SRSP (Sarhad Rural Support Programme), KPK Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the British Council. — Staff Reporter
