Mr S.B. Awan, Chief Controller of Imports and Exports, announcing the policy for the next shipping period over Radio Pakistan, said that the basic idea underlying the policy “is one of meeting essential requirements, particularly those to the industrial sector by devising a policy aimed at boosting indigenous manufacturing”.

Mr Awan asked the industrialists to bear in mind that by creating a surplus of goods produced in the country, “we may expect the quantum of goods available for exports” to improve the external resources and to sustain the present imports.

On the industrial side, the general classification of industries would be the same as in the year 1962.

With regards to the film industry, the scheme announced last time to meet the demand from cinemas and the film industry for equipment will be continued. Fresh applications will be entertained on first-come-first-served basis.—Staff Correspondent

New price of ‘Dawn’ KARACHI: The management offers greetings to all readers and announces that from today (January 1, 1963) the new price of DAWN will be 20 paisa.

This increase of two paisa has become necessary on account of the recent rise in the price of newsprint which has gone up from Rs950 per ton to Rs1,015 per ton.

We hope that readers will not mind this slight increase in the price and will appreciate that DAWN has been giving them far more reading material than before and many more pages per week.

The English dailies of Lahore are already priced at 20 paisa.

During 1963, the management plans to introduce further improvements to maintain DAWN’s lead as the nation’s best, biggest and brightest paper.
