LAHORE, Jan 13: The campaign for the byelections came to an end on Monday night, with the candidates claiming that they would defeat their rivals with big margins.
The candidates used all possible methods to canvass the electorate that compared to their adversaries they were in a better position to serve them.
By-elections would be held on Wednesday.
In Lahore, polls would be held on two provincial seats, vacated by the PML-N candidates.
Inamullah Khan Niazi of the PML-N, Qaiser Amin Butt of the PML-Q and Ziauddin Ansari of the MMA are the major candidates from PP-142 (Lahore). The PPP and the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf are supporting the PML-N on this seat.
From PP-147 (Lahore), Abdul Aleem Khan of the PML-Q, Syed Zaeem Husain Qadri of the PML-N and Amirul Azeem of the MMA are in the race. Here the PPP is supporting the PML-N candidate while the PTI is with the MMA.
The PML-N is confident that it will win back both the seats to re-establish that Lahore is the stronghold of the Sharifs. Two non-entities withdrew in favour of the PML-N candidates on Monday.
The PML-Q also used all possible methods to win voters’ sympathies. The ruling party wants to capture the seats to give an impression that the situation has changed after the induction of the new government and now more people are with the PML-Q.
On Tuesday, the candidates would finalize their plans to take voters to the polling stations.
