MANSEHRA, Dec 29: Right To Play, an international nongovernmental organisation, on Saturday organised a function at a local college to create awareness among girls of their constitutional and legal rights and polish their abilities by activity-based learning and games.

“We encourage youths, particularly girls, through activity-based learning and games. We introduced the junior leader’s concept in the country to make youths realise their importance and contribute to the development of the society through positive activities,” country director of RTP Iqbal Ali Jatoi told participants.

The girl students of more than 50 schools from across the district took part in the activity-based presentations on how to cope with the society and stand firm against odds and for rights.

Aged between eight and 18, they exhibited their confidence and talents.

“I had lost my parents in the Oct 2005 earthquake and didn’t want to live without them but my relatives took me to an SOS village where my instructor from RTP helped me develop courage and confidence to face the society and live independently,” said Bushra Zeb of Balakot.

She said she was shy and couldn’t even think of talking to others but when she became the junior leader, she pleaded cases of others and proud of it.

Other participants praised the role played by RTP in polishing the abilities of girl students at their schools in remote areas of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jatoi said besides 23 countries, his organisation had also been working in eleven districts in the country.

He said RTP had organised the function to bring the children between eight and 18 years to the mainstream.

Programme coordinator of RTP Abdul Jalil Khan said more than 90 schools, majority of them for girls, were attached with RTP in Mansehra district.

He said besides, RTP was also sponsoring football tournaments at union, tehsil and district levels to encourage healthy activities among youths.
