KARACHI, Dec 29: Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has asked navy officers to develop their professional acumen and acquire knowledge about social, economic and other threats to national security.

“You must keep yourself abreast in a fast evolving world where technology drives doctrines and thinking. Take out time for studies, reflection and discussion,” a statement quoted the Chief of Army Staff as telling the officers joining the navy.

“Encourage frank exchange of ideas among yourselves and with your seniors. You would find that an open mind will carry you through seemingly impossible situations.”

Gen Kayani was addressing the 98th midshipmen commissioning term and the seventh SSC officers’ class, comprising 118 officers, at Pakistan Naval Academy PNS Rahbar here on Saturday.

He said it was a challenging responsibility requiring unflinching dedication, selfless devotion, and above all, continuous pursuit of excellence in the profession.

Pakistan Navy had a glorious past and the joining officers would need highest qualities of intellect and character to come up to the standards set by their predecessors, he said.

“I am confident that the academy has equipped you with leadership qualities and professional attitude that will make your task easier,” the army chief said.

“Your immaculate turnout, smart drill and dignified poise are reflective of the high standards of training at the academy, for which I congratulate the commandant, faculty and all those involved in your training.”
