PESHAWAR, Dec 29: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has decided to reorganise its women and culture wings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Insiders told Dawn on Saturday that the two wings had been lacking activity for a long period and therefore, the provincial leadership had decided to reorganise them in all districts.
They said Shazia Aurangzeb had led the party’s women wing in the province for a long time but failed to organise it.
The insiders claimed that the youth wing of PML-N had been active. They said the youth wing had been organised to a great extent and had been active but its old guards were at odds with some newcomers.
When contacted, provincial general secretary of PML-N Rehmat Salam Khattak said the party’s reorganisation was underway and that its wings were functioning effectively.
He said the women wing had existed for long but had been inactive. He, however, said the new office-bearers of the wing had initiated activities in various parts of the province.
Mr Khattak said the party also had a sports and culture wing but it was without organisational units in different districts.
“We have initiated work to reorganise all wings for the best possible results in the next elections,” he said.
Also in the day, PML-N named Khalid Aziz Wardag president of its sports and culture wing, Hidayatullah, Mohammad Imran, Subhanullah and Najeebullah vice presidents and Naveed Khan general secretary for Upper Dir.
For Lower Dir, Waleedzada was named president, Adnan Khan general secretary and Ikram Khan, Aziz Jamal and Yasir Khan vice presidents. Names of the party’s office-bearers tehsil level were also announced. Mr Salam Khattak urged new PML-N office-bearers to step up efforts for strengthening of the party in their respective areas and ensure that its candidates win the next elections.
