KARACHI, Dec 27: An FIR in connection with the attack on Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) central leader Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqui was registered at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station on Thursday, almost 55 hours after the ambush.

At least six people, including four policemen, a personal security guard and a driver of Mr Farooqui, were killed when gunmen attacked them on Rashid Minhas Road on Dec 25.

Mr Farooqui survived the attack with a minor gunshot wound in the thigh.

The case (FIR No 981/2012) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 34 (common intention), 324 (attempted murder) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on the complaint of a worker of the ASWJ against unidentified attackers.

However, it was mentioned in the text of the FIR that some of the suspects could be identified by facial recognition if seen again, a police official said.
