PESHAWAR, Dec 26: Suspected militants blew up a government primary school for boys at Mushtarzai village on the outskirts of Peshawar on Wednesday evening.

An official of Badhber police station said that militants planted a time device inside the school that went off at 7pm. The blast damaged the building of the school, he added.

The official said that the watchman of the school had so far not been contacted as he was not present at the time of blast. The blast caused no loss of life, he added. He said that it was a school for boys, however, girl students were also enrolled in its initial classes because girls school was located away from the area.

Another blast took place on Canal Road near Pawaka village in the limits of Peshtakhara police station on Wednesday morning.

Police said that an explosive device was planted in a garbage dump that went off at 11:30am. The blast did not cause any loss to people, they said. “We immediately called bomb disposal squad personnel, who said that it was a low intensity blast,” police said.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have seized four suicide jackets, 59 hand grenades and 541 Kalashnikovs during the current year in Peshawar.

A police spokesman said that 5,383 dynamites, 223,329 detonators, 136 rockets, 141 fuses, 329 explosive devices and over 0.6million rounds, 6,444 pistols, 102 Kalakovs, 230 rifles and 1,096 shotguns were seized in the current year.

He said that 1,439 proclaimed offenders were arrested during raids. —Bureau
