LAHORE, Dec 24: Fog continued to hit the plains of Punjab and Sindh for the second consecutive day on Monday, resulting in closure of motorways and disrupting air and rail traffic.

In Lahore, vehicular traffic on several roads was very thin at around 8pm as it was extremely difficult to drive even a motorcycle due to poor visibility.

Cars were seen moving at a slower pace on Canal Bank, Ferozepur and Lawrence roads. After two-and-a-half hours, winds reduced foggy conditions.

The Motorway was closed from Babu Sabu to Pindi Bhattian and Faisalabad because the visibility was down to zero at around 7pm due to moderate to dense fog there, according to a spokesperson.

Officials manning the PIA flight inquiry termed the situation better than Sunday as only one Karachi-bound flight had to be rescheduled. All international flights took off after midnight. As fog started thickening the departure of rest of the flights might be rescheduled.

Fog also affected rail traffic delaying the arrival and departure of all passenger trains to and from Lahore railway station from two to five hours.

The met office has forecast mainly cold and dry weather in most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.

It said that foggy or misty conditions were likely to prevail over plain areas of central and eastern Punjab and Sindh, especially Lahore, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur and Sukkur divisions during night and early in the morning.
