KARACHI: M. A. Majid, former op-ed editor of Dawn, who served the Dawn Media Group for over fifty years, died in Karachi on Thursday after a brief illness.

Born in Sylhet, Bangladesh in 1933, Mr Majid started his journalism career in 1955 by joining the Illustrated Weekly of Pakistan, owned by the Dawn group of newspapers. After ten years, he was transferred to Dawn, where he served until his retirement in 2008 due to failing eyesight.

He leaves behind a dedicated wife, a daughter and two sons.

His funeral will be held after Friday prayers on Dec 21 at Sultan Masjid, DHA Karachi.
