LAHORE, Dec 19: Supreme Court Bar Association’s former president Asma Jahangir has commended Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Husain for restraining his party workers from protesting apex court summons issued to their leader on contempt charges.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, she said Altaf Husain showed great political wisdom by asking his party’s leaders and workers not to go to SC on Jan 7 and announcing that only his legal experts would appear before the court.

Ms Jahangir said Mr Husain was a politician and he must do politics as the judges would go home after retirement. She urged the judiciary to determine its limits and let the politicians do politics.

She also condemned the gruesome murders of female and male anti-polio campaign workers in Karachi and Peshawar. She said the audacious attack on these volunteers was a proof of government’s failure in providing them security.

Ms Jahangir said the government should ensure protection of the workers instead of suspending the anti-polio campaign.
