LAHORE, Dec 14: Pakistan International Airlines won the final of the NBP Gold Cup hockey here on Friday defeating National Bank of Pakistan 4-2.

The national carrier led the first half 2-1.

PIA made a fine start when their captain Mohammad Zubair earned a first minute goal through a field attempt. Kashif Ali made it 2-0 cashing in on penalty-corner in the 22nd minute.

Bankers’ skipper Akhtar Ali helped his team reduce the margin two minutes before the interval when he banged home, converting a penalty-stroke in the 33rd minute.

PIA’s Imran Abbas made things difficult for the bankers netting a field goal in the 60th minute to further boost PIA 3-1 lead.

However, the NBP again managed to come closer 2-3 when Akhtar scored his second goal on a field try. But a 60th minute goal by PIA’s Inyatullah sealed the fate of the final.

In the third position match, Customs beat Army 3-2. The winners led the first half 2-0.

Waseem Abbas (2nd minute) and Owais (33rd, 39th) were Customs’ scorers while Army’s scorers were Safeer (46th) and Shahid Ali Khan (51st).
