ISLAMABAD, Dec 10: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday summoned Mohammad Azam Khan Hoti, the father of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, on a legal suit filed by one of his wives.

Shamim Akhtar Kiyani has petitioned the court for the recovery of Rs110 million Haq Maher (dower) from her husband. After seeking the reply, Justice Mohammad Anwar Khan Kasi adjourned the matter till January 22.

The petitioner claimed that she married Mr Hoti in 2002 and lived in Islamabad. She said at the time of their marriage, Mr Hoti had promised that he would pay her the said amount as Haq Maher. But when he did not make the payment, she approached a civil court in Islamabad in 2011. The civil suit was, however, withdrawn after Mr Hoti signed an agreement with her, promising that he would pay the amount in 180 days, she claimed.

After the lapse of the 180 days, she sent a legal notice to Mr Hoti reminding him of the promise but he did not respond. As a result, she filed the suit with the IHC for recovery of the amount.

Rashid Hanif, the counsel for the petitioner, told Dawn that within 10 days after receiving the notice, Mr Hoti was bound to file a representation with the court and seek permission to contest the claim.

In case he does not file the representation, there will be a decree in favour of Shamim Akhtar, the lawyer observed.—Malik Asad
