CHARSADDA, Jan 10: District Nazim Naseer Mohammad Khan has said that with the support and cooperation of provincial assembly not only the district governments would be further strengthened but most of the problems of the people which are not in their jurisdiction would also be resolved.

In a press talk on Thursday, he brushed aside the apprehensions about curtailment of powers of the local governments by the provincial government of Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, and said the sole purpose of all the elected representatives was to solve the problems of the people.

He said it was for the first time in the history of the country that the people had access from the union council level to the district council level and from provincial to national level. This, he added, portrayed a stable democratic system.

He claimed that despite various hurdles the district governments had got the poor people emancipated from bureaucracy.

Naseer said Nazim should take the local councillors into confidence by identifying developmental schemes in their areas.

He expressed the hope that the local government system would be further strengthened and become more efficient following the transition of the country from military to civil rule.
