RAWALPINDI, Dec 8: An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi examined on Saturday evidence relating to three training camps of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and motorboats used in the rehearsal for the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

The record was produced before ATC judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman by Mohammad Altaf, deputy director of FIA in Karachi, and the judge after initial examination made it a part of judicial record.

In his statement, Mr Altaf said the terrorists involved in the attacks made preparation in the Arabian Sea on motorboats named Al-Hussaini, Al-Atta and Alfouz.

They were also trained in LeT’s training camps in Mirpur Sakro area of Thatta district as well as Yousaf Goth and Landhi areas of Karachi.

According to the FIA officer, the training centres spanned an area “ranging between 25 and 48 acres”. Mr Altaf produced photographs of the training centres and motorboats which at present were in FIA custody. He told the court that the case property was recovered in Jan 2009.

One of the seven suspects, Hammad Amin Sadiq, confessed during the inquiry that 10 terrorists had been kept in the training centres before the Mumbai attacks.

He said that Sadiq was a facilitator of the attackers during their stay in Sindh.

FIA’s special prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali requested the court for an early disposal of the case.

He said high-profile cases of terrorism like the Mumbai attacks and Benazir Bhutto’s assassination had been unnecessarily delayed.

“The ATCs across Punjab have started hearing the ordinary terrorism cases on a daily basis, but high-profile cases were not given equal treatment and they are still being heard once a week,” he said.

The judge observed the cases were being fixed in accordance with the availability of the counsel of the parties and in the high-profile cases the defence lawyers were not available for daily hearing.
