KARACHI: Senior Al Qaeda leader and a formerly probable successor to Ayman al-Zawahiri, Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Rehman Al-Hussainan, died in a US drone attack in Pakistan on Friday, DawnNews reported on Saturday.

Al-Hussainan was having breakfast when a missile fired from a drone targeted him in a Pakistani tribal region, DawnNews quoted the NBC News as saying.

The senior militant leader's death was announced on militant websites and was later confirmed by US officials.

NBC News further said Al-Hussainan had been seen in numerous Al Qaeda videos offering religious training to the group’s operatives. The videos were circulated by Al Qaeda’s media wing Al Shabab.
